Added/Changed this version:
- Added many save stones and missing checkpoints/altars to a whole bunch of rooms.
- Almost completed a working version of the Academy. I didn't think I'd do so much of it and there's a lot to add still but like the Fortress, it can now be entered, traversed and exited. The main path is done, the catacombs are at least implemented and I added two jump puzzles. I added a whole bunch of portals, props (and their associated effects like for the blood fountains for ex with the blood aura geometry blocks.) and decoration to the rooms and implemented a couple things related to the AI and final Boss, the Isolated Core. It is present in game but lack most of it's functionalities. As I mentioned, there's a lot of work left in the Academy but you can at least run through it.
- Added and extra jump puzzle in the Fortress, Making it 2 in each area.
- New guardian demon type and bosses related to it. The infected Guardians are found in the Academy and drop pretty important upgrade items. They're really over-tuned right now and a bit bullshit to fight right now but I'll tweak their stats as I go.
- Like areas, specific rooms now have names, briefly appearing when you enter them. Unlike area names, written in capital letters and accompanied by a knocking sound effect, room names will appear in lowercase and silently. A lot of the important already existing rooms have received a name display effect with more to come, especially for the Lower Sections and Bastion of Humanity areas.
- Connection between the Arcane Academy and the Golden Fortress. The room name is "Golden Arcade connection" and features a bunch of giant chandeliers that can be used as a bridge in between both Areas. Both sides of the room can be accessed in rooms J1E1 (Golden Connection room) and J2E1 (Arcane Connection rooms) for the Fortress and the Academy respectively.
- In the Connection mentioned above, you can now jump down in the Ocean of Gore from the chandeliers bridge. Warning, this will be used later, for now it leads you to a secret area already in the game for a while but doing so will restart the game from the first room of Chapter 1.
- Access to Limbo. The Vision of Gods is the wall of light in room K3 in the Sanctuary. Standing in it for a while will now teleport the Player to Limbo. There is no exit portal there, the player will teleport back to K3 after 3 minutes spent in Limbo.
- Added a panel to most merchants with a recap of the inventory and vaulted item the player has for convenience.
- Added the Starminster Residence in the Inhabited parts of the Academy. First room might be a little lacking performance wise, working on it.
- There is now a game intro in between the difficulty skulls menu and the Chapter 1 title screen. The intro only plays on NG and not in NG+ circles. I'll make it skip-able for 0.3.7.
Fixed this version:
- Now the game shouldn't export with a weird dev game file that can be deleted or played. It should start with nothing, ready to start a save file on NG pressing "Play" on the main menu.
- Angel door room's portal in the inhabited parts of the Academy should now work instead of soft-locking you in the room if you can't pay for the angel door's teleport.
Misc/background work:
- Mostly related to the Academy and progression this time, introducing a few loops where you can freely backtrack and move in between rooms like a metroidvania and introducing a lot of them in the early Academy. Those really start to add up and make the decision to take a portal that leads to a room from which you can't backtrack more important. Most of the game is very linear and a lot of places can be traversed one until you come back in an NG+, so using more or less of those interconnected sub-areas at key moments will probably become more of a thing in 0.4.x
- Did a lot of tweaks to the narrative/writing and still am. I've had a a lot of irl work lately and I'm doing the writing and gamedev whenever I have time. Taking my time with this as it will influence how I go about designing the rest and majority of the Sanctuary.
